HAULAGE traffic through Dover rose by nearly a quarter in January, compared with the same month in 1981.

Figures released by the Dover Harbour Board show that the number of commercial road haulage units (one tractive unit and semi-trailer equals two units) rose by 23.4 per cent, from 35,220 to 43,463, There was a 140.26 per cent increase in other ro-ro freight, and a 16.02 per cent increase in cargo handled at the port, but ferry services continued to become more efficient, showing a 7.32 per cent drop in the number of services.
