DESCRIBED as model V6, a new light roller, expressly designed for playing fields and sports grounds, has been introduced by Aveling-Barford, Ltd., Grantham. Weighing 35 cwt., it has three rolls, between which the weight is distributed equally, the rolling pressure being approximately 55 lb. per in. of width, which is claimed to be ideal for rolling grass.
• The effective rolling width is 6 ft., the front roll—made in two sections-measuring 2 ft. 7 ins by 2 ft. 6 ins, in diameter, and the rear rolls, each 2 ft. 07 in, by 2 ft. 9 ins, in diameter. There is an overlap of 33. ins, on each side.
Powered by a 12 b.h.p. V-twin water-cooled petrol engine, the roller has two speeds . forwards arid in reverse, namely 1.5 m.p.h. and 3.35 m.p.h. The engine, however, can be speeded up • to give 6 m.p.h. The direction is controlled by two easily operated, fabric-faced cone clutches, and power is transmitted by fully enclosed spur gearing and guarded roller-chain final drive. . The differential can be locked from the driving position. There are two brakes, and the frame is of electrically welded rolled steel. The steering gear is 01 the hand-wheel-controlled worm and wormwheel type.
Steel-plate rolls, incorporating renewable cast-iron hubs, are employed, and the steering fork and forecarriage assembly permits universal movement, ensuring easy and accurate control over , uneven surfaces.
Full-width adjustable scrapers are provided ; a 20-gallon sprayer tank is availa.b1Qas an extra, and the machine is supplied with a waterproof cover: Its overall length. and height are 9 ft. .
