UNIFICATION OF SCOTTISH TRANSPORT.
T" question of unification -of Scottish transport having been raised by Mr. Kirkwood, Mr. BoreBelisha stated that the Transport Advisory Council was at present studying the co-ordination of transport. If the Member would let him know whether he had any particular schemes in mind he would be glad to receive details.
SCOTLAND'S SHARE OF ROAD FUND.
PAYMENTS by Scottish road users into the Road Fund for 1933-34 were £2,100,000, Payments out of the Fund to Scottish authorities in the same year were £2,668.000. The conesponding figures for 1934-35 were
2,100,000 in and £2449,000 out.
B18 PROTECTION FOR OVERWORKED DRIVERS.
MR. THORNE asked the Minister of Transport whether he bad received a report from the Traffic Commissioners relative to the prosecution of an operator at Taunton who was fined for permitting two employees to drive lorries for excessive hours ; how many similar cases had occurred in the past 12 months ; and whether he would fake steps to protect drivers against loss of employment, if they communicated with the Ministry about the excessive hours they were compelled to work':
Mr. Hore-Belisha said that such cases were not reported to him. He was sure that the authorities fully appreciated the necessity of taking such steps as they could to prevent drivers from being unfairly penalized. NO SATISFACTORY ANTI-DAZZLE HEADLAMP.
THE Minister stated that his Pei:9Ament had not yet discovered any adequate headlamp which eliminated dazzle whilst providing a satisfactory driving light which was not dependent on dipping or turning and which satisfied all other requirements of the Department
CONTROL OF STREET-LIGHTING POSTPONED.
A SUGGESTION that special legislafl. non should be introduced this session to control extraneous lighting, in so far as it is detrimental tO:"Stieet lighting and confusing to drivers of motor vehicles, has been found in:practicable by the mere fact that there is no morn on the sessional progranithe.
