Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

haulage firm has been banned from running a company for three and a half years after paying creditors but failing to pay taxes. Harley Wenman was disqualified after an investigation by the Insolvency Service (IS) found Magic Transport had failed to submit VAT returns and incurred PAYE debts between 2009 and its liquidation in November 2011. However, the firm paid out more than £1.1m to trade and expense creditors during the same period.

At the time of liquidation, it owed around £252,000 in unpaid tax. The IS said it failed to submit VAT returns between December 2009 and September 2011 and, as a result, HMRC raised assessments and surcharges totalling £127,030, but the company only paid back £6,230. The firm also incurred PAYE debts of £95,751 between April 2009 and November 2011, but only paid £15,218.

IS chief examiner Mark Bruce said: "Directors who fail to pay taxes should not expect to get away with it."

The liquidator's report said vehicles worth £16,000 were sold to another firm owned by Wenman, Wen4, in August 2011, when Magic had ceased to trade but before liquidation. Neither Wenman nor Lesley Wenman, also named as a Wen4 director, responded to CM queries.
