• The Metropolitan Police has taken delivery of 40 MercedesBenz Sprinter vans as personnel carriers for public order inci
dents. With seating for eight, the 4121) models are equipped with a range of security features including anti-bandit windscreens, protected fuel tanks and anti-clogging exhaust systems.
The Metropolitan Police selection procedure included loading the vehicle to its 4.3-tonne GVW, accelerating flat out to 80km/h (50mph) and braking to a standstill. The exercise was then repeated 50 times.
