• Two men discovered with four stolen trucks, together worth over 2135,000, are in the dock at Maidstone Corwn Court this week charged with stealing lorries and dishonestly handling them.
Cohn John Rachel and Mark Anthony Collier, both of Truro Road, Gravesend, were arrested on 18 December last year when police officers surrounded an industrial unit rented by Rachel at Hoc, near Rochester in Kent.
Both Rachel and Collier deny the charges. W Bealby, prosecuting says the charges relate to four lorries, each worth more than £30,000, which disappeared from their parking places last December.
One of the vehicles recovered by the police is a C-registered MAN, valued at £32,000 and owned by Betchworth Plant Hire of Reigate. The tractor unit was in the process of being cut-up when the police arrived, says Bealby, who reports that the police discovered a V-registered Foden truck, owned by Darren Francis and valued at £32,000, which was taken from its parking place in Snodland on the evening of 1 December. A £33,000 Iveco owned by Harvel Tipping and stolen from a transport cafe on the A2 at Northtleet on 6 December (CM 13 December) was also on the premises.
