"I'm glad 1 made your job easy for you", was A. Willetts' parting comment to Paul Brockington after the prizegiving at Coventry LDoY. In the 1967 and 1968 eliminators, Paul had watched Willetts in every manoeuvring test and Willetts had scooped the board in both events. It was a bleak outlook this year when he was talking to Willetts before he took the tests. Rain had turned to snow and snow had turned to sleet, and how to get through the day in a viable state seemed a major problem. "At least it will be easy to write the report if you do it again", Paul said. And Willetts obliged. He won everything he could win.
Incidentally, Willetts takes a taperecorder with him on his travels. His children tape his favourite radio programmes so that he can switch to the tape if he gets bored with the current radio programme.
