It's strange to refer to "Mr. D. M. Readman" after writing "Corporal D. M. Readman" so many times in reports of his successes at LDoY events. Twice national champion, his record has yet to be beaten. He is still taking a lively interest in the event and when he was chatting to Paul Brockington about the standard of driving at the Coventry LDoY this year his comments suggested that he was eager to have another go. He's now supervisor of Tecalemit's Kenilworth depot.
In his view, the driver of a heavy vehicle with power-assisted steering has a big advantage over the driver of a similar vehicle with non-assisted steering and he feels that allowance for this advantage should be made in the regulations. He also recommends that an exercise in roping and sheeting should be included in all the events and agrees with a number of other spectators that a lively running commentary greatly enhances the interest of an event among the drivers themselves and the marshals as well as the spectators. He also points out that publicity in the local Press, which he feels is in general sadly lacking, would be a help.
