Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A monocoque type of aluminium tipping body has recently been supplied by E. M. Wilcox Ltd., Acland Street, Peterborough, to Boyden Haulage Ltd. of Peterborough. Weighing only 20cwt with a capacity of 34 cu.yd., it is mounted on a Highway two-axle semi-trailer, and the unladen weight of the body and trailer is 4 tons 7cwt. the plated gross weight of the trailer being 27 tons. The body has an internal length of 28ft, a width of 7ft 7in. and a height of 4ft 6in.

Details of the trailer include single taperleaf springs and Michelin 900-20 tubeless tyres. A Briggs and Stratton auxiliary engine is employed to drive the hydraulic pump of the twin-ram tipping gear, the unit being mounted at the front of the trailer.

Of argon-arc-welded construction, the body is of typical Wilcox design, in that its strength is derived from deep box-section cross-members and robust bottom rails that give uniform stress distribution and obviate the use of longitudinal members, a BS 1470 alloy being used throughout. This form of construction also enables the floor height to be reduced.

A wide range of bodies is produced by the company with capacities of 7.5 cu.yd. up to 38.2 cu.yd. Bodies of any size are available with a sub-frame, the extra weight involved varying between 1.6cwt to 3.8cwt according to the model.
