‘ViTH negotiations in the London bus dispute again at deadlock, leaders of the Trades Union Congress had a further meeting with the Prime Minister on Wednesday. He told them bluntly that he was unable to add anything to the proposals he put forward last week, which he thought still provided a basis for settlement.

The latest L.T.E. offer was 85. 6d. for the Central busmen and "a figure to be agreed" for Green Line coach men on resumption of work. The case of the country busmen and others would he reviewed within a month. This was unacceptable to the Union because they wanted a token payment of 4s. for country crews to cover the time the review would take.

Sir John Elliot, L.T.E. chairman, suggested on Wednesday that the review of excluded grades should either be carried out according to the L.T.E. formula, or there should be a reference back to the Industrial Court. He said he was willing to meet Mr. Frank Cousins, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, at any time.

Three days previously, Sir John had announced that a 10 per cent, cut in services would be made after a resumption, of work. By October, .500 buses would be taken off the road.

In the coach field, the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association continued to receive news of operators' fuel supplies being cut. Carshalton and Wallington Motors, Wallington, who have been running four coaches a day for the G.P.O. telephone staff, have had their supplies halted by the tanker .drivers.

Suggestions for complete strike action have been given a mixed reception by tanker drivers and power workers in the T.G.W.U. The power men are bound to give a week's notice of their intention to strike.
