• A French truck driver was given conditional bail on Monday at North Leicestershire Magistrates Court charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of three young RAF men.

Ludovic Caucheteux of Arras, in northern France, appeared in connection with an 11-vehicle pile-up between Junction 1 of the M6 and Junction 19 of the M1 near Rugby, Warwickshire last Friday The southbound carriageway of the M6 was closed for six hours following the accident. A further seven motorists and passengers required hospital treatment.

Caucheteux was bailed to re-appear on 2 October.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
