• While negotiations for the sale of municipally-owned Derby City Transport continue at the shortlist stage, Drawlane subsidiary Midland Red North is preparing to move into the area with a minibus fleet.
The Cannock-based company has applied for an operator's licence for 22 minibuses which will be stabled at the BRS London Road site. The company has also registered its first high-frequency route from the city centre to Alvaston. Derby is virtually the only city in the country without a high-frequency minibus servir City Transport only runs fullsize buses.
Midland Red North will rur under the banner Mercian (tE name of its Tamworth operations) and will run 16-seater Sherpa minibuses in the city. The minis have recently beer displaced at Shrewsbury and Wellington by 26 new 23-seal Iveco Dailybuses. Up to 30 new drivers are being recruit
