• Announcing a dividend of four per cent to shareholders at the agm of Saviem, the president of the company, Mr Bernard Vernier-Pailiez, last week expressed a hope that the maximum axle and gross weights of goods vehicles, suggested in Brussels last year, would be confirmed shortly. Without that standard, he said, it would be impracticable to plan the development of vehicles.
However, his company thought that the problems of safety and the enforcement techniques involved would have to be studied and applied in all the member States at the same time and in the same conditions.
Despite the national financial and industrial economic uncertainty shown throughout the world, Saviem is increasing its investment to market new models and boost its output.
