A LTHOUGH income from fares

kincreased by £11,193 to £481,738, West Bromwich Transport Department's gross profit during the year ended March 31 was down on the previous year. The figure fell from £46,969 to £30,476.

The net profit fell to 12,909, compared with £22,741. The annual statement of accounts shows that working expenses at £461,894 were £29,484— or 7 per cent.—higher. The main increase, totalling £29,062, was in salaries and wages.

During the past year, tax paid by the Department amounted to £56,785 on fuel; £10,347 on licences; and £4,000 in income tax.

Lincoln Transport Department, 'which is facing a deficit of £33,000 at the end of the financial year, have decided to rearrange services to reduce the estimated deficit to £25,000. The rearrangement involves the splitting of services in the city centre. A change in the frequency of services will mean that all services but one at off-peak hours will run at 14-minute intervals, and at peak hours at 12 minutes.

The splitting of services in the city centre is considered to be a retrograde step by the platform staff. They think that revenue from short-distance passengers who travel from one part of the city to the other will be lost.
