Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Analysing the position with regard to motor shipbuilding during the first half of the current year, The Motor Ship remarks that, in spite of the great difficulties surrounding the shipbuilding industry, further substantial progress is recorded in connection with oil-engiued craft. Since the beginning of the year large motor vessels, totalling 606,000 tons deadweight, have been completed, compared with about 1,044,000 tons for the whole of 1025. Of this amount the United Kingdom was responsible for about 188,000 tons.

More significant is the fact that the orders that have been placed for motor ships between January atid June of this year are equivalent to 648,000 tons deadweight, which is a larger figure than that for completed vessels. Of these new ships, approximately 50 per cent. are to be constructed in the United King dom, and this country appears to be improving its position with regard to motor shipbuilding.

At the present moment there are over 200 large motor ships on order, totalling about 1,660,000 tons deadweight, and this is believed to be larger than at any previous period. It should be added, however, that, owing to the diminution of orders for steamers, the total amount of shipbuilding in band is still small.
