Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Southgate IT.D.C. has accepted the tender of Lloyd and Plaister, Ltd., of Wood Green, at £675, for a motor fire-engine chassis.

Commercial Cars, Ltd., has received an order from Messrs. Cooderham and Co., of Toronto, for a No. 1 Commer-Simonis " fire tender, London derry's Report.

$uperintendent Trimble, the chief of the Londonderry Fire Brigade, in his report for the year ended the 31st March last, shows that the estimated risk in connection with 27 fires in the city was £43,915, whereas the estimated loss reached only 2.,092. The Corporation has one motor fire-engine—a steamer. The average distance to and from each tire (going and returning) was 1.45 mile, and the total distance travelled by the brigade was only :371: miles for the year. These figures, which are typical of a small city, show how it is that motor and tire maintenance cost so little.

Argyll First -.alders.

Argylls, Ltd., is standardizing first-aid machines for the use of collieries and small communities. There is seating accommodation on the machine for five men, and by a special arrangement the number carried can be increased to seven. Accommodation is also provided for four fire-extinguishers, a stretcher, a smoke helmet, and 1,000 ft, of hose. A respirator and ambulance outfit may also he carried, and, if required, a telescopic ladder or escape may also be fitted, on a specially-designed bracket, and carried as part of the car's equipment. This particular vehicle sells at approximately £400, and there should be an exceptionally-wide field for it amongst small municipalities which cannot afford to keep an engine, or even the usual firetender, which costs anything from £750 to 21,000. Another direction in which this little vehicle is likely to become Popular and useful is in providing the emergency means required under a new Order that is about to he issued in connection with the saving of life in the event of accidents in mines. In October last, Mr. Winston Churchill, appointed a committee to inquire into the, question of providing means of coping with mining accidents. The report of this committee was issued

several weeks ago, and it recommended the institution of rescue brigades at collieries, with the pro viso that central rescue stations to serve a number of collieries might

be created. One of the recommendations is that at each of these central rescue stations "a motorcar shall be kept in constant readiness."
