Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NUMBER OF hauliers remain in the dark over contracts with Tarmac Building Products, after the building giant revealed plans before Christmas to axe its precast solutions and looring arms.

Five haulage companies will be affected by Tarmac’s decision to review the business case of the divisions by the end of March: DJ Balls, carrying out work at Derby; D Lloyd, operating from Dolyhir, Powys; Grifin Freight, working at Lound, Notts; K&W Brick, carrying out work at Henlade, Somerset; and Prestons of Potto, working from Tallington, Lincs.

David Preston, MD at Prestons of Potto – which has worked with Tarmac for some 20 years and distributes inished products from the Tallington site – tells CM: “We are still trying to ind out the scale of these changes, as to whether operations will be slimmed, or en

tirely ceased. We are still working with the business until we hear otherwise.” A spokesman at Somersetbased K&W Brick says: “We will wait to see what decisions are made.” Blair Illingworth, CEO of Tarmac Building Products, says the changes are in response to “tough underlying market conditions and continuing uncertainty of demand”.

As a result, approximately 500 Tarmac Building Products employees and 50 agency staff, including a number of lorry drivers, have entered a 90-day consultation period over the proposals. Tarmac has an O-licence to run 85 vehicles and 81 trailers.
