If you want to squeeze the last drop of utility from your buck — and your truck — this is the sector to go for. We see who offers most.
V ED tax breaks for 6x2 rigids has seen this previously niche sector become ever more important as users look to squeeze as much value as possible from their trucks. Where previously buyers would have been satisfied with a traditional fourwheeler with an 18tonne GVW, the trend has been to put an extra axle under the truck and gain another seven or so tonnes of operating capacity with a limited increase in road tax. Rear steer and lifting axle technology has become more reliable and buyers should have no obvious durability fears when specifying, though seek advice from specialists regarding axle loading tolerances.
Daf, as it is in most sectors, is a strong player in the distribution rigid sector where it competes with both its LF and CF product range. Volvo and Scania are strong here too and the new Scania P Series with its improved driver comfort will be worth closer examination, as will the new Axor from Mercedes. MAN will come with new products in this sector in the spring which should ensure attractive pricing of the outgoing model.
With all truck brands active in this sector with very strong products there is plenty of choice, which means plenty of room for negotiation...
