Despite continued rumours of ils imminent departure the Vario continues to occupy a slot in the Mercedes-Benz CV product line-up.
Available in chassis-cab and van form the origins of the Vario date back to 1988, though it can be traced back further. Called Vario since 1997 this vehicle sits in the 5.99 to 7.49-tonne GVVtIsector and is available with just the one, 134hp version of the 4.25-litre Mercedes four-pot motor.
Van version of 7.5tonner-8140 — produced outstanding fuel economy return around the route back in 2003, significantly ahead of any other 7.5-tonner we've tested. Engine offering ensures it won't break any speed records. though characteristics of the motor are such that motorway cruising is a treat.
The ride is firm but well controlled and cab interior utilitarian, yet hard wearing and easy to clean.
