Relay and Boxer, like !heir Fiat counterpart, benefited from a recent upgrade. From the outside the changes are difficult to spot— new grille and headlights sum it up—but under the skin the range features a thorough wotkover of the interior and engines. Under the bonnet new common-rail 2.0 and 2.2-litre engines join the tray offering 86 and 104hp respectively. The 2.8-litre motor is carried over from the previous generation, while there's also a 2.0-litre 110hp petrol unit in the line-up.
This vehicle was the first to opt for a dashmounted gearshift back in 1994 and that's still here facilitating superb cross-cab access. The dash and fascia have been given a decent workover too. Three wheelbases. three roof heights and three gross vehicle weights (2.9, 3.3 and 3.5-tonnes) give load capacities ranging from 7.3m310 14.2m.
REASONS TO BUY
New common-rail diesels promise good economy and van priced to sell Load space free of clutter Design getting rather dated
VERDICT Decent performer but nothing to recommend it over more modern competitors
