• A series of prohibition notices has resulted in the licence held by Margaret McKnight, trading as Jack McKnight & Son, of Lanark, being suspended for a fortnight by Scottish Deputy Traffic Commissioner Allan Worthington. In addition, the Deputy Commissioner has curtailed the authorisation on the licence from six vehicles and six trailers to four vehicles and three trailers. Details of the prohibitions were given by the Vehicle Inspectorate at a Glasgow disciplinary inquiry The Deputy Commissioner was told that inspection records were missing in many cases.

For Mrs McKnight, it was said that the vehicles and trailers would be inspected by Jack and John McKnight every three weeks, or 6,000km if sooner, at her own premises.

In addition, a contract had been entered into for the Freight Transport Association to inspect the vehicles and trailers four times a year.

In penalising Mrs McKnight, Worthington said that he also required John McKnight to attend a CPC course and a mechanical training course run by the Vehicle Inspectorate, written confirmation that inspection records would be produced on request and that they would be kept for the statutory period of 15 months; and that a letter be issued to all drivers emphasising the importance of the daily driver defect reports.
