Transport has now granted an increase in gross weight from 22 to 24 tons for three-axle artics with outer axle spacing of at least 18 ft. As we have just supplied a customer with an artic and two trailers running at 22 tons grass where can we get official confirmation of this recent increase?
A The new consolidated Motor Vehicles N—s (Construction •and Use) Regulations 1966, No. 1288 came into force on December 1 1966 and is obtainable from HM Stationery Office price 6s. 6d. In schedule 7 section 3fa} the permissible maximum weight for an articulated vehicle where the distance between the foremost and rearmost axle is less than 18 ft. is set out as 24 tons.
