THE Scottish regulations governing the opera' tion of food vehicles will become operative on July 1. This six months' grace over their English and Welsh counterparts is a result of a promise made to the trade before the Bill was framed.
The Scottish Home and Health Department told the industry it would not seek immediate implementation but would delay the introduction of the regulations for 12 months after the Bill was passed.
Mr. J. Welsh, Scottish secretary, TRTA, told COMMERCIAL MOTOR this week that the basic difference was the requirement for the vehicles operating in Scotland to display the address of their operating base. This regulation applies whether or not the base is in Scotland. Many vehicles with depots south of the border are engaged in deliveries in Southern Scotland and the TRTA feels that because of this the regulations could be broken unintentionally.
The department has stated that it will be sufficient for operators to display the depot address on a postcard on the windscreen of the vehicle. The Scottish regulations are considered to be more simple than the regulation No. 1487, the English equivalent.
