GHER pay for busmen was suggested by Mr. Emrys Pride, chairman of Cardiff Transport Committee, as a means of attracting more drivers and conductors to the city's bus undertaking. "I have been wondering if a national rise in wages would attract the drivers and conductors we need," he told the committee.
The need for conductors had been eased, he said, partly due to the recession in the motor industry, but there was still a great need for drivers.
Mr. Pride said that the bus and trolley bus profit of £81,059 in 1959-60 was nearly double that estimated for 1960-61. which, in its turn, was four times as much as the £12,500 expected in 1961-62.
Expenditure would increase from £1,345,578 in 1959-60 to an estimated £1,485,900 in 1961-62, and income from £1,426,637 to an estimated £1,498,400 in 1961-62,
