COUR Grantham men were jailed at

Grantham Quarter Sessions last week after operating what was described at an earlier hearing (The Commercial Motor, November .25) as a large-scale fuel swindle likely to have put every honest filling-station Owner' Out of business.

Arthur Reginald Parkes, Bluegate, Grantham, one of the Wakleys' pump attendants,, was jailed for six months, and Raymond Cyril Massey, Castlegate, Grantham, another attendant, for

three months. .

Pleas of not guilty in respect of 15 of the 21 charges were accepted by the prosecution. The brothers were ordered to pay not more than £50 each towards the costs of the prosecution.

The men were charged with conspiracy, false pretences and attempted false pretences upon' Firm Petroleum

Products, Ltd., and lorry drivers. It was alleged that drivers were paid 2s. for each gallon of oil fuel, and 2s. 6d. for each gallon of petrol, booked to them but not supplied.
