CHANGES TO practical driving test rules to allow drivers who pass their test in an automatic truck to receive manual entitlement may not come in until the end of March, the DVSA (formerly Vosa and the DSA) has confirmed. When the changes were revealed last year, the agency anticipated that the rules would become effective in January, but earlier this month it said the legislation had been delayed. A spokeswoman said: "There has been a delay as the legislative
process is taking longer than expected, but we expect the change to come into force by the end of March."
The change will allow new drivers who hold a manual licence for a car, bus, or lorry to receive manual entitlement on their HGV licence, even if they take their practical test in a vehicle with an automatic gearbox.
Existing drivers will also be able to exchange their licence for one with manual entitlement if they hold a manual licence for another type of vehicle.
