• A scheme to issue motorway season tickets to lorry drivers is being backed by the EC Parlia ment's transport committee.
The tickets, which could be issued for anything from a day to a year, are seen as a stop-gap until the EC finds a more equitable form of vehicle taxation.
At present countries like the UK pay for infrastructure with high VED, while Italy and France levy motorway tolls.
The idea of season tickets was proposed by French MEP JeanLouis Bourlanges.
