• The Institute of Directors is pressing for privatisation of Britain's roads, postal services and rail network.
Speaking in Belfast last week, IoD director-general Peter Morgan argued the benefits of increased privatisation of transport sectors, including private ownership of motorways. Morgan says that motorway privatisation and the introduction of a system of tolls is needed for three main reasons: to control motorway use; to stimulate construction of new motorways and attract private capital; and to create a cost structure for roads to compete with privatised railways.
