MEMORIES that Peter Moreton may have of his Leyland Boxer will be anything but loving, and he has published a death notice on the truck in his local evening newspaper to record its final demise.

"The death has occurred," read the notice, "of our Leyland Boxer, born February 10, 1972, passed away on the M1 motorway at Shepshed, Leicestershire, having suffered a continual illness since birth, "The body will lie in state at our premises until a reasonable offer has been received for its removal. It could be brought to life again, but to be quite honest we have had more than enough of it and our patience has been exhausted," says the notice.

" I was sick of it," said Mr Moreton, managing director of a schools equipment factory, at Nuneaton, "I wouldn't have tolerated a car this long."

Now the end has come : "What is wrong with it now?" asked CM this week. " couldn't tell you," said Mr Moreton. "I haven't had the heart to look at it.'

And for the bargain-hunting haulier there is a snip to be picked up : " 1972 Leyland Boxer, low mileage, one owner, £800, tow it away yourself." Said Mr Moreton: "The Pengco system must be worth £1,300."

But the last word must go to Leyland : "We and our distributors are very concerned about Mr Moreton's action — particularly since no problems were advised to us or our distributors since March, 1973. Had they been advised to us they would have been investigated," said a spokesman.
