I NCORPORATING auxiliary stay members that provide a parallel linkage motion to ensure stability irrespective of the balance of the load, an improved version of the Vertiswing 5-cwt. rear-end loader for lorries has been introduced by Service Engineering Co. (Northampton). Ltd., Weedon Road, Northampton.

Made of steel, the platform measures 2 ft. 1 in. by 2 ft. 6 in. long and is open at each end. Hinged supports allow the assembly to fold flush with the end of the vehicle when not in use. A platform 4 ft. wide can be supplied to order.

The assembly is raised by a hydraulic system. and it is stated that the Vertiswing can be fitted in less than a day. The price is £110, but the cost for long vehicles or vehicle combinations is rather more to allow for the greater length of connection to the power take-off.

Brake-drum Lathe rAPABLE of dealing with drums of 14-, from 6 in.-2 ft. diameter and up to if in. in depth, a brake-drum lathe offered by Repco, Ltd., 59 St. James's Street, London, W.1, may be equipped with an outrigger so that wheels need not be detached from the drums for grinding to be performed, as is sometimes desirable with certain types of vehicle.

Standard Heaters

HEATING and demisting equipment I I introduced by Smith's Motor Accessories, Ltd., 50 Oxgate Lane, London. N.W.2, at last year's Commercial Motor Show is now being fitted as basic equipment by Duple Motor Bodies, Ltd. The heater chosen, the type R550, is of the underseat type, being directly attached to the seats instead of the floor.

The advantage is that when the seating arrangement of a vehicle is changed there is no need to disconnect the heaters from the water supply. This is made possible by a special S-shaped rubber pipe. The demister is the F376 model, designed to meet the new official requirement that public-service vehicles with fixed windscreens must have an efficient demisting system.
