Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The draft specification of a pan-European truck park security project is expected soon — and it's heading for the UK. Chris Tindall reports.

A PAN-EUROPEAN project to beef up security at vulnerable truck parks will have developed a draft specification of what's needed at every site across the continent by early next year.

Consultant Faber Maunsell, which is co-ordi na ti ng the Secured European Truck Parking Operational Services (Setpos) project, says good progress is being made by working parties briefed to identify, define and monitor security arrangements at truck parks.

The UK 'stakeholders' are the Road Haulage Association and South Yorkshire's People United Against Crime; Ashford truck park is one of five European sites chosen for the El lm (0.8m) EUfunded study. The two-year Setpos project will first define the requirements needed at secure rest areas for truck drivers before upgrading and monitoring the test sites across Europe.

Faber Maunsell director Jonathan James says it is nowjust month or two away from "a draft specification of what will be adjudged to be essential ingredients for a secure truck park". The next stage is for everyone to agree on the proposals. Once the project is complete it is hoped that truck-park owners will want to attain the security benchmark Setpos has created and drive down crime in the process.
