cars and car-derived vehicles has been announced by the British Standards Institute and Home Office under-secretary Douglas Hogg MR
Part one of the standard concentrates on the performance of locking systems, and aims to deter the opportunists who commit 70-90% of all vehicle crime.
Other aspects of vehicle crime are already being looked at, and Geoffrey Lee of the RHA is helping with the formation of a commercial vehicle discussion paper which is expected in June next year.
The standards aim to provide manufacturers with guidance on the fitting of effective security measures to new vehicles. Details from the BSI, 2 Park Street, London W1A 2BS.
