• Newly-privatised Badgerline has purchased Roman City and Roman City Holidays from the receiver.
Roman City called in the receiver on Thursday, November 20 — and within 48 hours the company had been purchased by Badgerline.
Badgerline spokesman Chris Carr says, "It was very important that Roman City was rescued quickly, especially for the London Connection express coach service to keep the good faith of the public. Not one London Connection service was lost during the purchase."
Under the terms of the purchase Badgerline has taken over the operation of Roman City's business, but not its buildings or vehicles. Three vehicles in Roman City livery are being operated on a short term lease, but Badgerline has not yet decided the details of operating former Roman City services.
In the short term four or five administrative jobs at Roman City will be transferred to Badgerline. Can says, "We will have to re-organise to accommodate the extra business."
The Roman City and Roman City Holidays names will be retained by Badgerline, says Carr, and a 1987 Roman City Holiday programme will be launched soon.
Badgerline was the second National Bus Company subsidiary to be bought by its management. The purchase of Roman City by Badgerline is the first case of a major operator being acquired by an independent former NBC company.
