MAIDSTONE coach company was fined a maximum of £100 by righton Magistrates last week for sending a coach load of penloners on a day trip to Brighton in a vehicle with a badly worn tyre.

Nu-Venture Coaches Ltd, Of pper Stone Street, Maidstone, dmitted using a defective tyre, rid after examining the tyre in Durt chairman, Harry Botterill, aid: "It is in an appalling state, rid could have resulted in a asty accident" and imposed the maximum penalty of £100.

For the company, Mr R. Turner said the coach had passed a Department of Transport test just before the trip to Brighton, and it had also been inspected by a tyre firm when other tyres were renewed. He thought it must have been of defective manufacture.

Inspector Colin Raynes said the worn tyre was noticed during a routine police check, and it was in such a poor condition' that the coach was not allowed to continue until it had been changed.
