DISCUSSIONS are being held by Mr Neil Carmichael, Under-Secretary DoE, with both sides of the bus industry and with the local authority associations about the problem of transport in rural areas, before deciding what steps could be taken.
Announcing this in the Commons, Mr Carmichael emphasized that the development of policies to promote the provision of services to meet the needs of particular areas was primarily a matter for the county councils concerned.
