FREIGHT tonnage carried by road maintained a steady increase in 1973 according to the British Road Federation annual booklet, Basic Road Statistics 1974.
Out of a total of 2,039m tons carried. 1,738m tons were carried by road, compared with I,655m tons carried by road during 1972.
Employment in road transport has been rising. according to the report, by about one per cent per year over the last five years and now involves more than 2m people. Of
these more than 800,00( are employed in good transport.
