A NEW Scottish region is being formed by the National Association of Waste Disposal Contractors. This Scottish regional executive will work closely with the Joint Waste Committee, formed earlier this year with the RHA in Glasgow.

Operators considering the acquisition of mechanical handling equipment will be interested in a publication. now available from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1 Birdcage Walk, London SW1. It comprises the papers given and the ensuing discussion at a conference on the Evaluation of Unit Load Handling Equipment held last year by the Institution manipulative and mechanical handling machinery group and includes investigation into equipment for pallets, packaged loads and containers Of particular interest to road haulage operators are the papers and discussions on self-loading vehicles, handling unit loads of parcels arid the evaluation and selection of fork-lift trucks.

For operators who also provide warehouse accommodation, there are papers on the selection of high-bay warehouse equipment and the use of stacker cranes.
