• Negotiations to transfer Glasgow's municipal transport undertaking to the Scottish Bus Group could, if successful, set the pattern for the future of the other three municipalities in Scotland, said Mr. E. R. L. Fitzpayne last week.
Speaking at Glasgow University, Mr. Fitzpayne, general manager of Glasgow Corporation Transport, explained that the new Glasgow Transport Board envisaged would consist of representatives of the corporation and the bus group working to co-ordinate the activities of the two organizations. Such a Board would not need to be protected by monopoly powers, said Mr. Fitzpayne, although under the new Transport Act, they would enjoy wider protective powers than the corporation.
The Act provided for the setting-up of a new Transport Authority in Scotland while not, at present, interfering with the authority of the four municipalities. It seemed inevitable that new authorities would be formed to amalgamate the activities of the new Scottish Transport Group (including the bus group) and the municipalities, he said.
