• Testing and plating of heavy goods vehicles started in Scotland on Monday. The scheme was inaugurated by Mr. Neil Carmichael, Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, at the test station at Bishopbriggs, largest of the 21 Scottish centres. It is estimated that some 63,000 vehicles are eligible for plating and testing in Scotland; co-operation by operators has enabled many vehicles to be tested voluntarily in the four months preceding Monday's official opening.
