INDEPENDENT front suspension by I means of wishbones and double-coil springs is a feature of a new four-wheeldrive vehicle added to the range of Douglas Equipment, Ltd., Tewkesbury Road, Cheltenham. Known as the Pathfinder, the vehicle is capable of carrying a 30-cwt. payload. It may be fitted with either a 4-litre petrol engine or a Perkins P6 oil engine.

The vehicle is 17 ft. long and has a wheelbase of 10 ft. 6 in.

NOTTINGHAM MAY SEEK NEW FARE RISE

PtA NEW application for increased bus fares will be put forward by Nottingham Corporation if the city council agree to-a proposal submitted by their transport committee. The last application, for a 3d. minimum, was rejected by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners (The Commercial Motor last week).

The new scheme is for a Id. increase on the existing 3d. fare for four stages. According to Cllr. S. P. Hill, increases already granted will yield £35,000 a year, leaving £70,000 to be found. Increases on 3d. fares would produce this sum.

CONTROL SCIENCE AND CUT COSTS " IF we can exploit and control and I organize the potentialities of the new sciences and technologies, our tranwort services will be revolutionized and we shall slash the costs at the same time," Sir Reginald Wilson, a member of the British Transport Commission, told the Humberside Section of the institute of Transport on Monday.

Nevertheless, he said, science could . create more problems than it solved. The present chaos of congestion was an example of what could hafopen when development was left unplanned and undisciplined.
