ND staff agree deal on pay and conditions

NORBERT DENTRESSANGLE'S (ND) transport arm has reached agreement with the Unite union on work and pay conditions until March 2010.

Following a ballot on l7 July, it has been agreed to reduce the working week from 48 hours to 44 for around 1,500 workers, Unite had previously rejected ND's proposal for a 40-hour week.

ND says that 75% of union members voted in favour of the revised proposals.

The group's HP director for transport services Deborah Parker says: "The industry faces a number of challenges, and the marketplace is extremely competitive.

With the specific changes we have made, we are now in a commercially-sound position to take these on."

Meanwhile, ND has implemented a pay freeze across the whole company, which Unite claims it is willing to accept.
