• The Road Haulage Association plans to submit a mass compensation claim on behalf of hauliers who lost money during the French truck drivers' blockade. The claim will demand £208 per day for each vehicle.

Roads budget
• The Department of Transport has a budget of £1.87 billion for new roads and improvements to existing ones for 1992-1993 and ZI.97bn earmarked for the following year, reveal Government expenditure plans published this week.

Porous plea
• The Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association have condemned the government's failure to introduce spray-reducing porous asphalt on fast roads. The Department of Transport intends to introduce the material for noise reduction only on busy urban roads.
