• North Western LA Martin Albu suspended the 12-vehicle four-trailer licence of Douglas Evans, trading as D&E Haulage, Widnes, after he failed to attend a Manchester disciplinary hearing. Evans had been called before the LA because of overloading convictions not reported to the Traffic Area.
Farm fracas
• Llangennoch farmer David Havard was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £100, after damaging one of a fleet of lorries belonging to Llanelli haulier Thomas Bradbourne which had been churning up a narrow farm lane. A charge of criminal damage was dropped.
Double failure
• An appeal by Wendy Smith, trading as Smith's Haulage, Narbeth, against the revocation of her licence when she failed to attend a Cardiff disciplinary inquiry, was dismissed when she failed to appear before the Transport Tribunal.
Absolute discharge
• Llanrwst-based Cawley Brothers and driver Victor Jones received an absolute discharge at Holyhead magistrates, after pleading guilty to overloading the third and fourth compensating axles of a tipper by 1,970kg some 10.1%. The court accepted they were not to blame.
