Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Notice of rationalisation in the milk haulage industry was given last week, when the Milk Marketing Board said it expects to become a voluntary co-operative by 1994.

By April 1994 dairy farmers will have to decide if they will continue to sell to the co-op or other companies. This will affect the £100m of distribution contracts held by the 40 hauliers which carry 11 billion litres of milk a year for the MMB.

However, MMB distribution manager Pat Williams predicts the investment required in specialised milk tanks will preserve their hold on milk work, despite the changes. He says: "The guys out there will be in a strong position."

From September Williams expects some changes in the volumes of milk deliveries to dairies as they are encouraged to take larger volumes of milk at the weekends.
