THE INDUSTRY'S campaign for down-licensing of lorries which run consistently below their gross plated weight was repeated last week when Freight Transport Association president Ian Dallison led a delegation to Transport Secretary Tom King.
They said that industry found it unacceptable to pay over the odds in tax, simply because the lorry is politically unpopular.
The FTA and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders are, meanwhile, looking to a recently-commissioned survey of operators as a lever to swing the down-licensing argument.
They have hired a consultancy company, MIL Research, to interview 600 operators, to establish statistics on operators' down-licensing intentions.
