Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AUTOSENSE probably manufactures the most sophisticated petrol engine test machine on the UK market. Not only does it tell the operator what's wrong with the engine, but is also shows how to correct the fault. Ten pick-ups are connected to various points on the engine and a hand-held digital panel is used to run the machine through the test programme.

Inside the main body of the tester is a mini-computer which works in conjunction with a cassette tape containing standard data details of petrol engined vans and cars made during the past five years. Information gathered from the pick-ups is fed to the computer, where it is compared with the standard data.

If the information is out of limit, the machine advises the operator of the repair code necessary to correct the problem, He then looks up the relevant code in his list and carries out repairs. The machine can also be used in conjunction with other diagnostic equipment, such as headlamp diagnostic gauges, to give the vehicle a complete check. Print-out for all tests is made on the computer sheet which pinpoints defects and may be used to show the customer where repairs are necessary.

Autosense is working on a diesel version of the tester, which it is hoped will be available in the near future. Available from: Autosense Equipment Inc Station Approach, Bicester.
