I read with interest the article outlining the GLC's proposals for haulage depots and cafés As the proprietor of a café. I should like to make the following comments.

Transport drivers seem to have become the forgotten men as far as local planners are concerned. Running a café today, if you are successful, is a constant struggle, as far as parking is concerned, with local residents, local councils, police and traffic wardens. Though all of these people require the services that drivers provide.

Motorway-type cafés run by faceless wonders are not really interested in serving lorry drivers, because serving an ever increasing army of fresh, everyday private motorists provide better pickings.

Any driver will tell you that the successful cafés, with competitive prices and good portions, are run by husband and wife teams.
