IMPROVED consultative procedures are to be put into action by the EEC in an effort to harmonise road plans of the nine member countries.
The Committee of Transport Infrastructure is to be composed of representatives from all the member States and they will study road transport plans at the preparatory stage and keep them under review.
Member States will be asked to give information on their road plans — especially those which involve crossing borders — and there may be financial help available for the schemes. Projects that are likely to get help from th, EEC are those that could affect trade plu those which improve access to outlyinj regions or could have an influence on common policy.
New technology in transport will also hay, some priority especially where it could be usei on long distances or in inter city use.
And to help the new scheme get off th: ground the Commission is recommending tha a float of between ElOm and £40m be mad, available to finance projects. It would be in tit: form of loan guarantees, interest rate redu( tions or loans.
