• The Department of the Environment has issued a reminder to drivers that they can no longer rely solely on their "ordinary" driving licences for driving heavy goods vehicles taken temporarily into Northern Ireland and that they will be required to hold hgv drivers' licences. A hgv driver's licence issued in Gt. Britain will be valid in Northern Ireland. If they have an immediate need to drive heavy goods vehicles in Northern Ireland, drivers can apply for their first hgv drivers' licences at any time.
Similarly, drivers bringing heavy goods vehicles into Gt. Britain from Northern Ireland will require to hold hgv drivers' licences; and Northern Ireland hgv drivers' licences will be valid in Gt. Britain.
