TROLLEYBUSES are finding favour with the transport committee at Newcastle-on-Tyne, as a result of their experimental introduction on the Wallsend-Denton Burn route. A. number of trolleybuses is on order for service on another route, and now the city council is to be recommended to discard the trams on three more routes in favour of trolleybuses.

This change-over will necessitate a total expenditure of £87,000, it is stated, whereas the renewal of the practically worn-out tram tracks on the three routes concerned would cost £110,000. Twenty-four more trolleybuses will be required.

The committee is also proposing that an existing bus service should be extended to take over the service at present provided by trams along Westmorland Road, where the track is also wearing out. Two more buses would be required felthis conversion.
